thornton college had a story
worth telling. they just needed
a film that could tell it.
THE CHALLENGE
- The school’s existing video content no longer reflected the breadth or warmth of life at Thornton College
- A generic school film would fail to capture what genuinely sets the school apart from its competitors
- Student voice needed to be central — authentic and wide-ranging, from the youngest year groups through to Sixth Form
- The boarding provision and international community required honest, warm representation — not an afterthought
- The school’s distinctive facilities and grounds had to feel integral to the story, not merely decorative
- The final film needed to work hard across the website and social media as a single, credible flagship asset
OUR APPROACH
We worked closely with Thornton College to map out every aspect of school life they wanted to showcase, from Early Years right through to Sixth Form. With so much ground to cover, detailed planning was essential — we structured the two-day shoot to move through the school methodically, ensuring every department and setting received the time it deserved.
The production spanned two full days on site, giving us the space to capture the real breadth of what Thornton College has to offer. We covered Early Years classrooms and science experiments across chemistry, physics and biology; the choir performing in the Red Hall; ballet and drama in the expressive arts spaces; and students at work in the Sixth Form café and seminar rooms. Some of the most distinctive sequences came from the environments that set Thornton apart: the on-site swimming pool and gym, the forest school where pupils were building dens and toasting marshmallows around a campfire, and the boarding house, shot to convey the warmth and independence of life at the school. With international pupils forming part of the community, it was important that the film communicated something beyond facilities — giving the genuine sense that Thornton College is a second home. The chapel, library and grounds gave the film its sense of place.
In post-production, the footage was edited into a single, cohesive three-minute film — long enough to tell the full story, tight enough to hold attention throughout. The edit was structured to move the viewer through the school with a sense of energy and flow, balancing quieter, intimate moments with more dynamic sequences. Students from across the school provided the voiceover, with voices ranging from the youngest years through to Sixth Form. Music, pacing, and the school’s own voices were used together to create something that feels genuinely of Thornton College.
